Who we are
RARES, the
Regional Area
Recreation and Employee
Services Association,
is a member-supported,
tax-exempt, not-for-profit association of more
than 350 member business organizations. And as a
result of this association, the 330,000+ employees of
our authorized General Member organizations are all
members of RARES. RARES provides employers
and organizations with a comprehensive variety of
discounted employee/member programs. For

What we do . . .
RARES is many things to many
people. First and foremost, we are an association dedicated to
promoting and bettering the benefits packages of our member companies and
improving the professionalism of their HR & Benefits staffs.
RARES, a member-supported, not-for-profit organization, supports activities in the community that benefit
children and health services.
RARES offers discounts on
products and services to its
membership. The association hosts
professional development seminars on topics ranging from human resource
issues to those involving marketing and production.
To the HR representatives and
benefits representatives who serve as the interface between RARES and their
respective companies, we are an invaluable resource - providing cost
effective employee benefits with ease.
To the companies who join
RARES to promote their products or services through the discounts offered to
our larger membership, the association is the most cost effective method of
promotion available.
To our more than 330,000
individual General Members (and their families), we are a source of savings on everything from
food to legal services to amusement and recreation.
RARES does not accept paid advertising.
Members do not pay a fee for placement or special placement of information
on the RARES web site. Member companies, including Associate Member
(vendor) companies, may pay a membership fee to be a current member of the
association. The association may obtain revenue (i.e., commissions)
from purchases of online merchandise offered at a discount on the RARES web
site.
The association does endorse the companies
who are members of RARES and encourages RARES members to support these
organizations with their purchases. Likewise, the association takes
complaints of alleged violations of discount offerings seriously and asks
that the membership report any concerns immediately to the CEO or the RARES
Board. The association will make every effort to investigate and if
necessary mediate a resolution and may take action for violations including
revocation of membership for violations of RARES policy and procedures.

the Regional Area Recreation and Employee Services Association.
What is RARES?
RARES is a professional, tax-exempt and not-for-profit
organization chartered in 1983 (originally as the Rochester Area Recreation
and Employee Services Association), to assist in offering employee benefits and
discounts on area products and services to its membership. Our wide
variety of programs and services include human resource seminars and
education.
RARES offers two types
of membership –
Associate Members, or
vendors, who provide discounts on goods or services to the RARES membership,
and General Members, who are the
businesses that join to offer these same discounts to their employees.
Our General Members presently represent more than 240,000 employees in NY
with almost 100,000 more nationwide.
All General Members nominate a RARES Representative to serve as their
contact point with RARES and who disseminates information to that company's
employees. Most of these RARES representatives are Human Resource
Directors or Benefits Specialists who work in employee benefits, services,
and/or recreation fields. In essence, the association exists to both
increase employee retention and build corporate morale. We encourage

for answers to many of your questions.
As a not-for-profit, all membership fees collected from RARES members go
to support the undertakings of the organization which include educational
activities in the areas of human resource management and employee relations
as well as charitable undertakings aimed at providing access to recreation
venues for underprivileged youth in our region.
RARES is incorporated as a tax-exempt, not-for-profit within the state of
New Hampshire and has a legal mailing address with a registered agent within
the state of NH.
What is the Purpose
of RARES?
The purpose
of the association is to bring together individuals representing employees
in the Upstate New York area from businesses and organizations, who are
interested in promoting various activities, events, products and services
that would be beneficial to their respective employees. We are a
not-for-profit that exists to supplement the benefits offerings of our
respective employer members.
What
RARES does for its General Members . . .
General Member organizations are the businesses, associations, or not-for-profits that join to offer
RARES discounts to their
employees or members. Recently, we have also extended this opportunity to
individuals or families as well.
Our General Membership companies pay an annual fee to
access timesaving resources, tools, and information about discounts and free
services available to their employee members. Annual membership fees vary
between $85 and $450 depending upon company size. Click

service to our General Members:
- HRCI continuing education credit for HR professionals;
- Self-contained discount information conveniently displayed on this
web-site;
- Regular newsletter mailings with new discount information;
- Often, the most significant discounts available in the Rochester area;
- One stop-shopping for consignment tickets – the opportunity to
purchase tickets (consignment and pre-pay) from one vendor (the RARES
office) as opposed to many separate entities;
- If a company does not wish to participate in the consignment ticket
program, their employees may purchase tickets normally available on
consignment directly from the RARES office - reducing time demands upon
company personnel;
- Minimized time spent talking with sales reps concerning discounts;
- Easy employee access to discount information via the web-site;
- Opportunity to network with other professionals about employee
benefits and needs.

Directory
The RARES
Service Directory is published annually (updated regularly) and available to all
General Members. It contains information about each of our Associate Members
(vendors) programs and is used
as a resource by the General Member Representatives members when they are promoting your program or
service to their employees or need answers to often asked questions
concerning your program or service (i.e., costs, hours, limitations, etc.)
A
complete mailing, e-mail, and telephone list of the RARES representatives within our
General Membership population (typically Human Resource Directors and
Benefits Specialists) is also available
at a small charge to our Associate
Members - providing
you with an excellent means for creating the opportunity for one-on-one contact.
Newsletters
Our online newsletter is published at the beginning of each month with a distribution of
24,000+ and is available (space
permitting) for promoting your program at no extra charge.
The RARES "Consignment Corner Newsletter" is published in the middle of
each month and is made available only to RARES Representatives in each
member company. This publication allows you to target your
promotions directly to HR/Benefits personnel.
Web
Site Marketing
RARES also helps you promote your products through our web
site. Banner ads, vendor profiles and links to your company's web
site are all available. If a RARES member agrees to offer your program they will
distribute promotional materials and sell the program to their employees
and their families.
The
most successful Associate Members in RARES are those who truly offer a real value
and significant discount on their product or service coupled
with a good promotional program and a strong desire to work closely with
the RARES association and its members.
Vendor
Fairs
At least one
Vendor Fair is held each year. One is always held in the Spring and one
may be held in the Fall, depending upon member demand.
This year's Spring Vendor Fair is scheduled for early April. Locations
vary (in the past it has been held at the RIT Inn & Conference
Center, Artisan Works, the RMSC,
Genesee Country Village and Museum, and the Dome Center). Our
Spring Vendor Fair typically features a casino gaming event
with The Dealers and educational and professional development seminars for
our General Member Representatives.
These popular events are an opportunity for Associate Members to
showcase their program to our General Members and provide the opportunity
to network with General Representatives face-to-face.
There is a small fee for participating
vendors. Fees typically range from $75 to $100 depending upon
the venue.

RARES accepts the following types of payment for its online ticket
purchases:
   
Don't see an organization listed that you would like to see as a member of
RARES? The simplest way for us to recruit them is when you provide
that "warm referral." Providing information about RARES membership is
easy. Either leave behind a RARES ID card for the manager to follow-up
with (you can always obtain another from your HR/Benefits Rep at work), or
refer them to our web site. The

button will lead them to everything that they need to know about becoming a
RARES member. And if they join and tell us that you were the reason
for their joining, then we'll offer you a
Referral Reward
